To complete your W4 form 2022, please follow the instructions below step-by-step.
1. Complete the Form with Your Personal Information
Please provide:
- Your full name.
- Address.
- SSN/Social Security Number.
- The status of your tax return.
2. Holding several jobs or having a working spouse
Follow the guidelines to receive more accurate withholding if you file jointly and your spouse has more than one job or if you file jointly and either works.
Complete steps 2 through 4(b) of the W-4 form for the position that pays the most money. On the W-4s for the other employment, you should skip those stages and leave them blank.
You may tick a box on the tax return to indicate that you and your spouse earn around the same amount if you are married and paying your taxes jointly. The catch is that both partners need to check that box on their respective W-4 forms.
You have a few choices if you don’t want to tell your employer that you have a second job or that you earn money from other sources that aren’t related to your employment, including the following: In line 4(c), you will have the opportunity to provide instructions to your employer on the amount of additional tax that should be withheld from your paycheck. You might also choose to exclude the extra income from your W-4 calculation. You may avoid taking the tax immediately out of your paycheck by making anticipated tax payments to the Internal Revenue Service on your own every quarter instead.
3. Claim Dependents
If your annual income is less than $200,000 (or $400,000 if you file as a married couple), you can enter the number of children and other dependents and then multiply that number by the credit amount. (Please refer to the regulations regarding the child tax credit and the circumstances under which you are eligible to claim a tax dependent.)
4. Make Any Additional Adjustments (Optional)
You have the option of noting that you want more tax to be withheld or that you anticipate claiming deductions in addition to the standard deduction when you file your taxes.
5. Sign Here
Once everything is finished, hand the form to the payroll or human resources staff at your workplace for them to sign.
